EVENT 01: Welcome to the Pentagon!

WELCOME TO THE PENTAGON!

Picture a Las Vegas sized hotel, but with no casino. It's just very big. And there is no gift shop.

The Pentagon welcomes you...

You wake up from a doze seated in a firm lobby chair. Walked through a set of automatic sliding doors, bag in tow. Where did you get that bag? Listen, don't worry about it.

- All guests to the Pentagon arrived with a medium-sized standard rolling bag. It is filled with any items they would have brought with them if they had time to pack a standard rolling bag before they left. Weapons are okay!
- All guests may bring one living animal. The animal will retain any powers it may have as long as it is not worldbreaking.
- All guests will have their powers. They will not be allowed to use it to break the world. They may break other things, but they will be pulled aside by one of the receptionists for a Talking To. They may be barred from the hotel for the night and it gets cold outside the Pentagon!
- Guests are not limited to standard entry to the hotel. However, if they break hotel property upon entry, they will be expected to pay for repairs. Method of payment will come as soon as I'm not fuckballs tired.

Things to do:

- Check in! There is a handy dandy receptionist at the front desk ready to take your name and your reservation. Yes, you have a reservation! It's here, in this shared suite. You don't remember making that reservation? What a pity. Well, while we get you resituated in the system, I suppose you will have to make peace with your roommate. Please don't fuck up your relationship with your roommate, that would be so terribly awkward. If you would like to trade rooms, that is fine, but please notify the front desk with all involved parties with the details of the room change! Also, please allow one day for admin to catch up with bookings before you trade rooms! Try to be nice to your one night roomie okay okay

- Get breakfast! A free continental breakfast is served from 6 am to 10 am. Please come by for fresh food!

- Chill in the lobby! When it isn't doubling as the breakfast area, the lobby area functions as both a waiting room, a meeting place, and a chill seating area in case you don't want to eat your gas station hotdog at the gas station like a neanderthal. wow.

- Find your room!

Each suite has a:
- kitchenette (one pot, one pan, plastic silverware, paper plates and bowls. no food. that's at the gas station across the street.)
- microwave
- fridge (with drinks! you will have to pay for them if you take them. it's going to be Esspensive.)
- two beds (small, but very comfy)
- bathroom with bath and shower (with standard toiletries. if you need more, you can call the front desk! there are towels, but if you make a real mess, call the front desk for fresh ones.)
- toilet (no bidet)
- closet (3 hangers, one extra set of sheets, one extra comforter, two extra pillows, a small ironing board, an iron)
- shared side table (two drawer compartments, one for each bed; there are outlets for electronics)
- wardrobe (just one, but it's big! please share.)
- desk with rolling chair (just one! again, please share. also: a notepad with a cheap ballpoint pen, a phone, and a phone directory for standard hotel amenities)
- pullout bed couch (for more guests! this bed is far less comfy than the standard beds.)
- television (with standard cable and standard trash programming. nothing particular stands out about the programming.)

- book shop? ... There is a bookshop where the gift shop should be. Where did it come from? Perhaps it's always been there, in the same way the faceless staff of the Pentagon have always been there. There is currently caution tape over the front entrance. Although the entrance isn't locked, it is not advised to enter the bookshop early. Who knows what might happen (the people who were in the City knows what will happen no don't touch that—)

- gas station? across the street? The street stretches into the horizon. This place is flat. so very flat. but there's a gas station.

- fresh produce (limited, but good variety. may be slightly wilted.)
- standard basic groceries (including pet food for your Living Creatures)
- liquor section (we in the south now boyzzz)
- lotto ticket machine (?)
- chargers/small electronics
- wall o candy
- basic amenities and toiletries(fancier than hotel amenities but not by much)
- magazines!
- slushy machine
- coffee machine
- rolling hotdogs
- hot fast food
- car maintenance products. you know. for your car
- gas station guy. nice guy

How do you pay? the gas station guy will charge it to your room! Who's paying for your room? Erm. Tehe. pero

You can also go to the gas station guy and buy a bus ticket to Sin City for a vacay. Sin City is great! Lots to do in Sin City. Buses to Sin City leave every Wednesday evening — don't be late! However, after a month at maximum, you will be back in your room in the Pentagon. Guess the hotel likes you!

Other hotel amenities. This hotel isn't 5 star, but it isn't 3 star either! Standard fancy hotel amenities, such as a small gym, a pool and sauna, a well maintained laundry room, a small spa, and a business center with computers and print station also exist. The only amenity that does not exist is the standard fancy hotel restaurant. Make your food yourselves!!

[From the unit directly below, Illuga looks up at the sound of a thud and muffled yelling. What is happening up there? Should he check on it??]

[ Voir looks up too. They turn the hairdryer off to make sure they're hearing... whatever it is... right... Is this a part of their responsibilities? It probably is. Uh.

They poke their head out of the bathroom. Don't worry, they are wearing a bathrobe... They can be decent if they want to. ]

You hear that too?

[oathlantern]

Yeah, it sounded like something hit a wall really hard. [And drywall sounds different from metal, so Illuga can't tell just how bad it is.

Anyway I guess Kaveh is taking his claymore to it next so the banging is only getting worse.] Should we see if they're okay?

[dissemblage]

[ Voir gives the ceiling a look. They can hear the very faintest yelling — the soundproofing is comparatively quite good — before tilting their head. ]

I'm giving it a couple more minutes. If it gets worse, I'll go get Arsalan. I can mediate fine, but I'd rather have him go in first.

[ It wouldn't be the first time Arsalan has been their meat shield! He's good at it, too. ]

[The Lightkeepers generally get along, but Illuga has certainly witnessed what happens when two ratniki hit their limit. Intervening is not for the faint of heart.]

Right. [But Illuga's skin still pricks with worry.] I don't hear any screaming...

[dissemblage]

[ A laugh. No news is good news, but Voir is tuned in for anything else coming down the wire. One more minute... two... ]

... Not sure how I feel about no more fighting.

[ Either they've worked it out remarkably quickly or someone's dead. Either way, Voir's mouth sets in a grim line. ]

I'm gonna get some clothes on. If you're gonna go up too, keep an eye on your six or wait for me to come with you.

[ And with that, Voir disappears into the bathroom to quickly throw their clothes back on. Recon time. ]

[oathlantern]

Mm. Alright.

[It's probably Voir's job, not Illuga's business... so he'll end up lingering back, giving Flins the moment to intervene before he can change his mind.]

[glazing]

[ a little later after the sounds above emanates through the walls, there is a knock on illuga's door.

flins bows. ]

Young Master Illuga. I hope you are well, and that I am not disturbing your rest.

[oathlantern]

[Whether Voir is still here or actually went to deal with the issue, Illuga will be the one to open the door.]

Sir Flins. You aren't disturbing anything not already disturbed by the noise upstairs.

[glazing]

That is, in fact, the reason why I am here. [ flins says. he takes a single step back to crowd in against illuga, peering down at the crown of his head with a solemn smile. ] I am here to survey if the claymore in the room above has successfully perforated your ceiling.

[ he is, in fact, not looking at any ceilings. ]

[oathlantern]

Is that what it is? [Illuga's brows shoot up.] No, the ceiling's fine but--ugh, we should have gone to check on it sooner.

[He is already trying to move past Flins do he can take the elevator up a floor.]

[glazing]

[ this is flins, with the helpful air of cats who proceed through life at their own pace, gently moving into illuga's path. ]

I beg to differ, Young Master. There is nothing you can do for the poor souls above us. They will settle on their own in their own time.

[oathlantern]

[He puts his hands on his hips.] Are you saying you already went to look?

[glazing]

Indeed. [ a severe hand to his chest, because he clearly went to go look for security purposes and not because he's an old gossip of a lantern. look, patrol has been very boring lately. ] I happened to be on the second floor when the commotion began. However, it seems to be a private affair between several men. There is a woman involved.

[ flins does not mention that the woman involved has a very large gun, and that the men seem more involved with each other than with her. best not to make too many assumptions, or judgments, or say things that will cause illuga to actually go look. ]

[oathlantern]

[Somehow, it's not reassuring. Maybe Illuga should also have been up, should have gone at first instinct just to confirm and not have to put the onus on Flins.

He sighs, shoulders slumping.] Fine, but if a claymore really does go through the ceiling I'll have no choice but to go look.

[glazing]

That would be your right, Young Master. But matters of the heart are not for outsiders to intervene in. [ a thoughtful pause. ] Do you insist on being in this room for the rest of the afternoon until the claymore does strike again?

[oathlantern]

Of course not. [If Illuga doesn't do something he'll combust.] There are things to do. Surely they won't be at it for hours.

[glazing]

Oh? And how would you know such a thing? Are you familiar with the intimacies of driven men and their stamina?

[oathlantern]

Because if a sword is involved sometimes probably going to get hurt or worse long before then.

[glazing]

Now, now. You must never underestimate men with their swords, especially when a young lady is involved. [ a small, private smile. ] In any case, I've always been of the opinion that a spear does the job far better.

[oathlantern]

[A young lady...?

Oh. Oh.] You aren't taking this seriously at all! If you want to hear it, I don't disagree with preferring a spear. And now I'm going to handle lunch while Voir handles that.

[glazing]

Oh?

[ another step forward. ]

And what is it that you know about handling spears, Young Master Illuga?

[oathlantern]

I handle one myself, don't I? [He gives Flins' chest a push so he can squeeze out of the room, refusing to give him the dignity of eye contact. Or maybe that's just to preserve Illuga's dignity.]

[glazing]

[ merriment dances in the flames of flins' eyes. he allows after a beat for illuga to push past him, then falls into step behind him as if this has always been the way of the world.

his young master is far too cute. ]

I have, indeed, seen your prowess with the spear. You picked it up with great skill and talent; it is often a source of pride and envy amongst your men. I am honoured to have such a close ability to examine your spearwork for myself, so that I, too, may learn from you.

[oathlantern]

[His shoulders relax slightly as they get off the innuendo. He's not sure he has the strength to deal with that from Flins right now.] Wouldn't you already know? It's everything I've learned from Pops after all.
